Why Sassa SRD Grant Application may be Declined

There are several reasons why your SRD Grant application may be declined. Before you make your application with Sassa, you have to make sure that you meet all the requirements. If you miss just one requirement, your grant may be declined.

Let us look at some of the reasons why your applications may be declined:

Getting Income more than R624 per month

Your bank account must not be receiving an income of more than R624 per month. Even if the money is just passing by your account, it will be counted as your income. The current threshold for a person to be eligible for SRD grant is R624; that is considered the poverty line.

Receiving NSFAS Funding

Applicants for SRD grant must not be getting National Student Financial Aid Scheme funding (NSFAS). Your application will be declined if it is found that you are receiving NSFAS.

Registered on the UIF Database

If you have previously received UIF, it may be possible that your name is still on the UIF database. If Sassa found your name on the UIF database it may mean that you are still receiving UIF. So make sure that when you apply for the grant you are no longer on the Unemployment Insurance Fund database.

Age Outside Range

Foy you to qualify for the SRD Grant, you have to be between the ages of 18 to 60. If you are below the age of 18 you do not qualify for the grant and also if you are above the age of 60 you do not qualify for the SRD grant.

Other Reasons why Your Grant Applications SRD Grant Declined

Identity verification failedThe personal information provided does not match the Department of Home Affairs details.
Existing Sassa GrantThe applicant is a current recipient of a Social grant other than a child grant
Gov payroll registeredThe applicant is in employment in a government institution
Suspended (Deceased Record on DHA)The client is registered as deceased on the Department of Home Affairs database
DebtorThe client was paid R350 once or more where the client did not qualify. The error was picked and the money is withheld to correct the error. Payments will resume if the client still qualifies, once all the outstanding R350s recovered.

What to do if Application is declined?

If your SRD application is declined, you have the right to make appeal of apply for reconsiderations. Go to the Social Development Tribunal website to lodge an appeal. Here is the link: https://srd.sassa.gov.za/appeals
