Sassa Confirms : No Basic Income Grant of R999

The South African Social Security Agency has noted fake news making rounds about basic income grant of R999. The agency has therefore made clarifications about the grant.

What is Basic Income Grant?

Black Sash and other civil society organisations are demanding an establishment of Basic Income Grant which should cover unemployed individuals from 18 to 59 years old.

“The Black Sash demands that government implement permanent Basic Income Support for those aged 18 to 59 years who have little to no income! Unemployment, poverty and inequality have been compounded by the Covid-19 pandemic. This crisis is not temporary and a more extensive social security programme is needed to complement job creation programmes.”

Is Basic Income Grant of R999 Real?

No, the basic income grant of R999 does not exist. Sassa has recently slammed the website sharing such news as “fake news”
