The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) advised grants beneficiaries receiving monies at cash points and Post Office to use alternative ways to cash out or buy groceries with their Sassa/Sapo Card. The agency recently said they were facing challenges beyond their control.

Sassa Cash Service Challenges

Sasssa said that the challenges they are facing extends to Post Office as well, as such they advised grants beneficiaries not to visit Post Office to cash out their social grants as from 11 May 2022. They indicated that the cash points will not be serviced as from the day mentioned above.

“The cash pay points at which social grant clients normally access their social grant funding, will not be serviced – as a result of challenges beyond SASSA’s control.” Said Sassa on a press statement.

The contingency plan

Sassa and Sapo will assist clients to reset their pins at cash points so that they are able to pay or withdraw their funds at retailers or ATMs. “SASSA is currently implementing contingency measures where both SASSA and SAPO staff are present at the pay points, and are assisting all clients to receive PINs, so that they can transact at the nearest retail outlets and bank ATMs.”
